Maintaining updated BIN range tables is vital for authorisation routing and fraud detection. Failure to update BIN tables can impact the profitability of your business, as consumers will be unable to make purchases using valid cards.
BINs evolve constantly and the card types associated with them changes frequently. It is therefore very important that BIN tables are regularly updated, to ensure that the latest BIN ranges are recognised at the point of acceptance. This applies both for card-present and card-not-present transactions.
Elavon recommends that BIN tables are updated at least once every month.
You are asked to review your current processes and procedures to ensure your terminals or checkouts operate with the latest BIN ranges from all card brands.
If you use eCommerce you’re especially urged to check web pages are regularly updated to reflect the latest BIN updates.
Elavon solutions will receive automatic updates, but if you’re using third party solutions check with your service provider to ensure that processes are in place to regularly update BIN table ranges.
