To minimise the risk of transactional friction, abandonment rates, and fraud and while improving consumer experience of 3DS 1.0, with immediate effect, Mastercard will prevent customers from bypassing the Mastercard Directory Server for 3DS 1.0 transactions before submitting those transactions into authorisation, as doing so introduces unnecessary risks including:
- Lack of integrity of the Accountholder Authentication Value generated at the time of cardholder authentication, which can lead to higher fraud.
- Missing data from those authentication transactions that Mastercard uses for our risk models, fraud prevention tools, and compliance program.
Action required:
Any Customers using 3DS 1.0 are asked to ensure their solution is compliant, while they work towards their upgrade to the newer version of 3DS software. If you’re unsure please speak to Elavon or your terminal provider for further details.
